Timeshare promotions.........................worthwhile???

We visited Orlando %26amp; did 3 timeshare promotions. They fed us breakfast or lunch, gave us 2 free tickets %26amp; let us buy 2 add%26#39;l tix at a discount. PLUS we got to see some beautiful properties that we may stay at next time we%26#39;re in town. It was definitely worth it to us %26amp; our question is........are the timeshare promotions offered in Hilton Head worth our time? Thank you in advance!!

Timeshare promotions.........................worthwhile???

While Hilton Head has a number of Timeshare properties, there are only three companies which are active in the area.

1 - Marriott which is currently developing ';SurfWatch';, has about 8 oter resorts.

2 - Spinnaker has several resorts, most are in Shipyard.

3 - Reba - has a number of resorts in shipyard, Port Royale, and South Forest Beach.

Timeshare promotions.........................worthwhile???

Do you know if they offer a valuable gift for touring? Is it a hard sell? Thanks again.

TravelingTimms: I think you will find that the Orlando ';promotions'; are much more competitive for your timeshare business than Hilton Head, therefore the ';incentives'; would probably be more. Having done our share of timeshare ';90 minute come 4 hour harangues';, we have vowed not to do another one in our life. You must be brave souls indeed to do 3 of those things in the same vacation time period. Anyway, there are ';timeshare guys'; set up outside a few venues in Hilton Head. One: The Hilton Head Diner Two: Stacks pancake house Three: Walmart Four: Skillets Restaurant (Coligny) and Five: Fuddruckers. Until I actually counted, I didn%26#39;t realize there were so many. Anyway, you are bound to run into them. We were%26#39;t the least bit interested in dipping into our valuable time on Hilton Head to attend for a few shopping bucks or free mini-golf, whatever it was. I know Spinnaker Resorts is selling it%26#39;s newest timeshare the Bluewater, so they may be offering some incentive. The Marriott Surfwatch may also still be hawking incentives.

In my honest opinion, I can see (maybe) going to a presentation in Orlando and getting Disney tickets or Seaworld tickets, but what they can possibly offer you in Hilton Head (other than perhaps a discounted mini-vacation) is beyond me. It%26#39;s just not set up the same way as Orlando or Myrtle Beach or other attraction laden areas.

Do let us know what swag you end up with after attending a timeshare presentation on HHI.

D in Muskoka.

Just to set the record straight, before someone gets all bent out of shape.

It%26#39;s not that I am down on timeshares. In fact, we are timeshare owners who have exchanged our RCI points as recently as this past xmas to stay on Hilton Head. We had a gorgeous timeshare. I will not mention the name so it doesn%26#39;t sound like I%26#39;m advertising timeshares for them. We did not buy directly but resale (that%26#39;s the only way to go in my honest opinion). My only beef is the sales tactics and usually condescending tone they take on when you get firm with them and tell them you are not in a position to buy into timesharing right now. My experience has been that butter wouldn%26#39;t melt in their mouth at first, but then this other side of them takes over and they can become quite overbearing.

We LOVE our timeshare and are so glad we can use it on HHI!!!!!!

luckytimer.....thanks for all that info. we%26#39;ll probably pass knowing that the ';gifts'; are not that valuable. we were actually in florida a month but we really did 3 of them in 1 day. the way we saw it was it%26#39;s raining %26amp; we%26#39;ll average $80 an hour, so.....why not. but i very much agree with you that you need tough skin because they were all rude %26amp; nasty as soon as we said ';no';. i held everyone to the 90 minutes though. as soon as i walked in i would tell the receptionist it%26#39;s blank o%26#39;clock %26amp; i need to be out this door in 90 minutes %26amp; when they%26#39;d try to keep us longer we%26#39;d get a little loud. that always got them moving. i%26#39;m curious what resales go for because we always stay in timeshares but we usually rent from owners. anyway.....thanks again for the info. :)

The Coral Resorts timeshare offers:

Day trips to Savannah, Horseback riding, night at the Jazz Corner, Harbour Town Cruises, Golf packages,

Kayaking, dining and activities gift certificates,

---this is only the list I know of--my relatives always do this tour when in town--never heard any complaints from them. And my wife and I have got to do the cruises with them on the resort%26#39;s dime. Most of the times my inlaws get packages for 4 from them so we get to go to Savannah or Jazz corner with them. The value always seems to be around $200. I always send people to pick up the packages at Wal-Mart. Don%26#39;t know but it always seems like you get more at Wal-Mart than anywhere else.

hhipelicans......okay, now i%26#39;m rethinking my decision. i guess i%26#39;ll check out the offers at walmart %26amp; then decide. thanks for the headsup. on another note, i see you are from hhi %26amp; i%26#39;m wondering if you know anything about the shrimping tours. are the fun? kid-friendly? any suggestions who we should use? thanks again!

There are two companies Guest Services and Spinnaker that have Kiosks in various places on the island.

Guest services which represents REBA has the most. they maintain one near the Coligny bakery and at the mall.

Spinnaker has four or five.

frankly, I don%26#39;t know which of the two services Walmart.

Do any of them offer a free place to stay? Maybe a 2 night deal if you listen to their offer.

Marriott offers such a deal. They have 3 and 4 night vacations, if you listen to their pitch. They use direct mail which is probably targeted to certain demographics.

I believe Spinnaker used to have a similar deal. They would call in to the rental condos and offer another week in paradise. When I lived in Captains Walk, we would get those calls. Since Captains Walk has mainly rental condos, they didn%26#39;t realize that my unit was owner occupied.
