Need recommendation for local authentic South Carolina barbeque. Coming into Columbia Sunday the 6th for 2 nights. Thanks.

I%26#39;m not familiar w/ any of the %26#39;local joints%26#39;, but have had Maurice%26#39;s a few times and it was good. It%26#39;s a big place and very popular. You%26#39;ll see signs for it.

Hound - you can start a real fight in SC when you start talking about ';Good'; %26#39;cue...... as a ';head%26#39;s up'; barbeque in SC is almost always pork, and in Central SC, we%26#39;re used to a mustard based sauce.... no brown sugar laden ketchup for us! You can do Maurice%26#39;s in a real pinch, if you%26#39;re desperate and don%26#39;t want to look hard.... any of the places mentioned in this link would be better...

I like Shealy%26#39;s and Little Pig, but, good %26#39;cue in SC is in the eye of the beholder.... where ever you go, if you want SC authentic, make sure to eat some hash - we normally eat it over fluffy white rice, but, over good ol%26#39; white bread ain%26#39;t bad....

my favorite bbq in south carolina is in a tiny little town called springfield at goodland%26#39;s bbq. excellent hash, bodacious pulled pork, fresh veggies, and nice fried fish fillet all on a buffet. excellent tater salad, slaw, and other sides too. the nanner pudding is not to be missed. i hope yall enjoy it as much as we have! if you are looking for local and athentic south carolina bbq this is it.

Thanks for all the replys. Unfortunately we had to cancel our trip. Our 19yo son had 2 seizures this past Saturday. We spent the weekend in the hospital.

I am not comfortable leaving him here while we go south for 10 days. South Carolina BBQ will just have to wait for another time.

Agree with Farmboys recommendation. I actually really like Maurice%26#39;s bbq, but haven%26#39;t been able to eat there for years now due to abiding by the boycott because of the owner%26#39;s insistence on flying the Confederate flag. Wish he%26#39;s take it down so that a lot of locals could eat there again! Harper%26#39;s downtown also has a couple of good bbq dishes on their menu along with a variety of other offerings.

shealy%26#39;s has great sauce, excellent wood fired bbq and a magnificent hash not to be beleived until tated.
