Carriage Ride

Visiting Charleston in June and would like to take a carriage ride within the first day or two or arriving. Is it necessary to book a carriage ride ahead of time or can we just show up? Where do the carriage rides leave from? Thanks so much.

Carriage Ride

No need to book in advance. The companies are concentrated in the block of Anson St. closest to Market St. You shouldn%26#39;t have to wait if you get there early. (On busy days it%26#39;ll back up but even then they just pull out more carriages.)

If you decide to take a walking tour I do recommend booking in advance.

Have fun!

Carriage Ride

I personally like Old South Carriage Company - they all wear the red sashes - we had a driver named AJ, who was awesome!!

Just know this....the carriages are ';assigned'; a route by a lottery draw, and they all leave from the same point so you might not see what u want to see. They have to do this to free up traffic congestion in the downtown area. And you can usually book the day of without trouble. Id recommend going early in the day and getting your tickets.

AJ also told us that there were only a certain number of carriages allowed in the city at one time - I%26#39;m sorry to say I can%26#39;t remember how many it was! So, you may have to sit in the queue line for a little while - our wait was about 15 minutes, but it was very enjoyable - AJ divided the carriage into teams and we played trivia! :)
