Mt Pleasant--what's good to do?

Will be there 1 week, lst of May. Have auto, and will go into Charleston some, but sounds like quite a bit of good stuff going on in Mt.P.

Any suggestions re food, martini, parks, etc will be helpful!!!

Mt Pleasant--what's good to do?

Sites in Mt. P: Patriot%26#39;s Point, Boone Hall Plantation, Shem Creek.

Nice Drives: our neighborhoods featuring plantation-style homes that are new. Drive through I%26#39;on, Hibben, Rivertowne, Hamlin Plantation for modern construction with an old feel. (Those are the larger neighborhoods with plantation and elevated homes in Mt. P). Many of the neighborhoods have homes under construction; walk into a few to get an idea of how homes are built here.

Restaurants: Mustard Seed, Locklear%26#39;s, Red Drum Gastropub, and anything on Shem Creek (go to Red%26#39;s Ice House for sun, sunsets, and fun). Vickery%26#39;s has better food, a nice elevated deck overlooking the marsh, nice sunset views, probably Martinis but I haven%26#39;t looked. More upscale and still on the water is Water%26#39;s Edge - you could find Martinis there. Go to Poe%26#39;s Tavern on Sullivan%26#39;s Island for fun and decent food. (Edgar Allan Poe lived on Sullivan%26#39;s for a short time when he was in the military). Henry%26#39;s makes a good martini for sure, but you won%26#39;t see crowds until late.

Parks: well, the best ';Park'; is the beach. From Shem Creek, drive a few minutes away from the Ravenel bridge; cross the low causeway and you%26#39;ll be on Sullivan%26#39;s Island. Beaches start there; also check out the adjacent Isle of Palms (just north of Sullivan%26#39;s). Great place to walk for miles; perfect sand for jogging and even bike-riding. If you mentioned parks for the walking/exercise, the Ravenel bridge is a great place to go for a walk, too.

Shopping: Towne Centre (has acres and acres of ';outdoor village';-type shopping, with most of the national stores like Barnes and Noble, Gap, Old Navy, etc. plus many boutiques. All around Mt. P you%26#39;ll see stand-alone antique shops as well as some in strip centers. Those are worth a look if you%26#39;re into that.

Hope that gives you a start...ENJOY and welcome to Mt. Pleasant and Charleston!

Eat fresh seafood. Eat fresh seafood. Eat fresh seafood. Get my point LOL.

I definitely agree with the fresh seafood - all of the places I mentioned have the freshest seafood. At Red%26#39;s you can get buckets of oysters, but all of the other places will have fantastic local fresh fish.

I had the most decadent meal at Vickery%26#39;s in Mt. Pleasant last year. I almost wept when I dug into the Low Country Saute (Shrimp, crabmeat %26amp; crawfish tails in bourbon butter, served over creamy grits %26amp; topped with crispy fried oysters), and the warm bread pudding with caramel sauce that followed was some of the best I%26#39;ve ever had. I liked the casual, waterfront ambience, too.
