Bessingers BQ Review

We ate a Bessingers BQ on March 16,2008.We found this to be a good family Restruant for a good price. Our family of 4 ate at the buff. with 5 or 6 different meats, lots of veggies and the cost was apx. 26.99 (one child was free)and this included drinks and desserts.The Bq was very good and the sauce was a lighty sweet sauce.The dinning was casual dress with a clean well run dinning room. The service was very good and every one in our family enjoyed eating here.

We will return to eat here on our next trip.

Did you eat at Piggy Park or Maurice%26#39;s? Both are owned by the Bessenger family. Maurice used to be a part of Piggy Park but his family stopped workingwith him due to his radical racial beliefs. I would not support Maurice in a million years. There are many other great restaurants in SC than some bigot%26#39;s BBQ.

Kettermn ate at the BEssinger%26#39;s on Savannah Hwy, which is neither a Piggie Park nor a Maurice%26#39;s.

Thanks for your reviews, Kettermn! I also love Bessinger%26#39;s buffet, but I surely thought they were more expensive than that. Good for you guys!

We discovered Bessingers when our children were babies. We were so happy to find a kid-friendly place with great wholesome food, a fun atmosphere, and a resonable price. After twenty years, we are still ';regulars'; whenever we are in Charleston.

Yes we ate at the Savanna Hwy. location.We had no problems with race at all there and felt very welcome.We are a mixed family through adoption.The food was very good and the watress(sp) was very friendly to all of the customers.

Just to set the record straight.....Bessingers is a family business with a couple of brothers running their own restaurants. Bessingers on Savannah Hwy (the buffet and sandwich shop) is one brother. Melvin%26#39;s in Mt. Pleasant is another Bessinger brother. Maurice (Bessinger) has his restaurant in Columbia SC. All BBQ places are worth a trip. Yes, Maurice did have an issue with flying the Confederate flag over his restaurant in Columbia but thas has been a couple of years ago and no longer talked about (old news). Bessingers on Savannah Hwy was a Piggy Park many many many years ago.
