We just booked a flight to Myrtle Beach with Spirit Airlines. Before booking I read that golf clubs would be charged as standard baggage. Now that I have booked it looks like standard baggage has to be less than 62 linear inches.
Has anyone flown recently with their clubs with Spirit? I have yet to purchase a travel bag for my clubs, but I%26#39;m thinking that it%26#39;s going to be oversized, meaning $100 instead of $10. Good thing we got a deal on the flight!
Any suggestions?
Flying Spirit Airlines with golf clubs
I%26#39;ve heard of hunters and fishermen shipping their guns and rods FedEx/UPS when going on long trips.
Don%26#39;t know how that would work with golf clubs. Would have to ship them out a few days early to have them there when you arrive.
Size/weight/plus international shipment fees. Might be cheaper to pack em on the plane. Find a Kinkos or UPS Store. Couldn%26#39;t hurt to ask.
Flying Spirit Airlines with golf clubs
We did it last year and will be doing it again on Saturday - can%26#39;t wait. There%26#39;s another clause somewhere that says clubs are counted as baggage. One suitcase and one set of clubs will count as two standard bags. Spirit charges $10/bag at the airport but I think it%26#39;s less if you pay for it online.
eagvent - Did you fly Spirit last year? And you only paid the standard fee?
I guess what has me concerned is the 62 linear inches. In my documentation from Spirit, is says that golf clubs will be standard baggage as long as they meet the size and weight requirements of 50 pounds and 62 linear inches (L+W+H)
Well, I ended up calling Spirit for clarification and they said that size does not matter. As long as the clubs/bag are under 50 pounds they can be counted as standard baggage and the $10 fee applies.
Make sure you print the Spirit page for the $10 bag charge or else it%26#39;ll be $20 for each bag at the airport!! See their web site and print it out. And from what I read %26amp; understand- a golf bag- including clubs- counts as one bag and is therefore $10- each way.
I flew down last week on Spirit with the clubs. Golf clubs are treated like normal luggage. They pay no attention to the length, but they will with the weight. 50 lbs is the limit. You may prepay for luggage on-line for $10 each way. If you pay at the airport, it%26#39;s $20 each way.
When you get off the plane, rent your car and by the time you do that, the bags will be out. Having multiple flights a day in Myrtle, they know what they are doing.
Thanks so much for all your advice. I did book my baggage on-line to save the $10 per piece.
Now I%26#39;m just waiting for April 28th to get here. Hope the weather gets better before then. Last week it was high 70%26#39;s but I just checked out a long range forecast and it shows only in the 40%26#39;s on April 11. Yikes!
